Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of this assignment is to provide the student with an opportunity to explore
strategies for health promotion and risk reduction.
Directions
1.
Each student will prepare a written assessment on how a current trend in society
or the progress of research is likely to affect the accessibility, quality, cost or
impact of health promotion and risk reduction services.
2.
Each student will access the appropriate research literature on the approved topic.
Appropriate literature includes scholarly periodicals (journals) that are peerreviewed, and that are prepared specifically for a scholarly or professional
audience. At least six sources from the scholarly periodical (journal)
literature must be included. Other sources, such as textbooks, electronic
resources such as web sites, and publications for the lay public may be included,
but are in addition to the scholarly periodical references required.
3.
Write a 5-page paper, which should include the following:
A 1-2 paragraph description of the problem
A brief review and critique of the current scholarly research in the problem
area, appropriate to the students educational emphasis (clinical faculty,
administration or advanced nursing practice). Popular, sensational and general
interest literature is not acceptable for this review. See the definitions of these

A short speculative scenario as to how this trend or problem will influence
the provision of health services in the future.
A brief description of a strategy or solution that could influence the selected
trend toward optimal outcomes for health promotion and risk reduction,
appropriate to the students educational emphasis (clinical faculty,
administration or advanced nursing practice).
4.
The body of the paper is not to exceed five (5) typewritten pages (excluding title
page, abstract and references).
Grading: Total of 35 points
1. The trend or problem is fully and accurately described. (10 points)
2. Potential effect of the problem on the accessibility, quality, cost or impact of
health promotion and risk reduction services is fully described.
(5 points)
3. Relevant and appropriate scholarly literature is used to support the existence and
potential effect of the problem. (5 points)
4. Recommendations for strategies or solutions evidence critical thinking
principles. (10 points)
5. Paper is written in a scholarly manner (grammar, spelling, points adherence to
APA [6th ed.] format). (5 points)
