Behaviour Discussion

Behaviour Discussion

This was the question that was answered by the responses below: Kara’s daughter just turned 2 years old and has been having some behavior problems. Kara has been working on encouraging the good behaviors she wants to see occur more frequently. What are some ways Kara can work at modifying her daughter’s behavior?

They are called the terrible two’s for a reason. Tantrums are very likely in two year olds. They want their way and will usually act out to get it. Giving in only re-enforces the negative behavior. One thing I do and did was re-direction or miss-direction of their attention to a different thing that is acceptable. Once re-direction is done the behavior that is desired is accomplished then that behavior is reinforced with positive responses. One of the most important things is consistency. At this age positive reinforcement is very important, some of this reinforcement is in the form of some tangible reward such as cookie, popsicle, little toy or a playful intimate time with the child. On the negative side a child needs to know the word no is a word of displeasure. I was able to make my voice a little harsher sound not yelling but firm that behavior is not good. you don’t laugh at behavior one day and the next say no it’s confusing. Hitting, biting, and kicking should be stopped immediately with a sharp no. Another tactic is to try to give the child a difference choice.

Before Kara can find the best way of modifying her daughter’s behavior, she needs to try to find the cause of her behavior. If Kara’s daughter is just going through the “Terrible Two” stage, then she can try using an associative learning, such as putting her daughter in the corner for time-out if she misbehaves. If Kara finds that this method is not working as she was hoping it would Kara can try using positive reinforcements, such as her favorite foods, toys, or money.

In the same respect, if Kara finds that her daughter’s misbehavior has to do with something other than “Terrible Two’s,” she may look into putting her daughter into counseling, or stick with putting her daughter in time-out whenever she misbehaves. If these methods do not work, Kara may need to look into putting her daughter on some kind of medication to help with her bad behaviors.

The main way I locate news is through television, honestly. I do watch Fox News quite a bit. I find more political news from that channel. For local news, I usually watch the local news station. The local news comes on right after another sitcom I watch, so I just leave the television on to see what is going on around me. For social news, I usually have to go on google and find articles from sources that are reliable. Most of the time I will see a story trending all over social media sites, such as Facebook. Of course I cannot trust the information I receive from Facebook so I ten to either google it or see it on the news later on. Another major way I locate news is through others around me. My grandmother likes to tell me all about what is going on around the world when we have conversations.

How do you separate yourself from that crowd of people? You know, the one that thinks that they know it all, yet they are simply regurgitating what they heard somewhere else, yet try to take ownership of the idea?

I try to watch NOVA and other educational documentaries as well as read facts on things I find interesting in life. Taking that information and putting it through a thought filter helps me formulate educated opinions on various subjects.
