TOPIC: Consumer Informatics
OBJECTIVE: Determine the use of patient portals and differences in use by determinants such as gender, age, education level, etc. and why patients are using the patient portal or why not.
PART I: Annotated Bibliography
Research the topic of patient portals/personal health records. Locate at least 4 articles/research studies and using the following format create an annotated bibliography.
Format:
Title of Article
150-word summary of key points of article/study
APA 7th edition reference for article
PART II: Survey
Create a survey asking questions about a consumers use of a patient portal (survey can go to classmates). You can use any free survey tool to collect your results. (Wufoo or Survey Monkey for example). You will want to be sure to use a Likert Scale (ex. 1-strongly agree, 2-agree, 3-disagree, 4-strongly disagree, etc). You need to have your survey reviewed by your mentor prior to sending out.
· Survey should contain 5-7 questions.
· You are trying to find out if the consumer uses a patient portal (consider whether that is attached to an EHR)
· You are trying to determine the range of ages, genders, and education level of those who use a patient portal.
· The other topics would be your focus (maybe consider asking ease of use, how they use it, etc).
You need at least 15 responses.
Part III: Data Analysis
You will need to analyze your data and present a table of responses, along with one other type of data display. You will want to provide at least 2 paragraphs on your findings and if this matches what you discovered in your earlier research with your annotated bibliography.
PART IV: Presentation
After you have collected your responses, create a short 5-7 minute narrated presentation discussing the findings (from research and survey).
