When stress is excessive, it can lead to asthma, high blood pressure, ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome.  Stress can also affect behaviors that increase the risk of heart disease such as smoking, overeating and decreased physical activity.  The body’s response to stress can be in the form of a headache, back ache, stomach pains, forgetfulness or feelings of crankiness (www.heart.org).  Managing stress is a good idea for your overall health and is effective to reduce the risk of heart disease.  Daily exercise, avoid smoking, having a positive attitude, healthy diet, healthy weight, and decrease caffeine and alcohol consumption are great ways to relive stress.  Figuring out what our stress triggers are is important to deal with it before it gets worse.
