An article critique involves the identification, evaluation, critique, and response to an author’s study, both positive and negative. An article critique is an active process that involves careful consideration of the article’s content, rather than providing a simple summary. Critiquing research allows you to develop an understanding of the current state of knowledge, which is essential to the development of an understanding of the “big picture” of a discipline as a whole.Research a health promotion/behavior change intervention for a population in one of the following: school, community, worksite, or health setting. Select a peer-reviewed journal article related to the health promotion/behavior change intervention you chose. The article must have been published within the last 2 years. Articles from news outlets, magazines, or blogs are not appropriate for this assignment. Critique the article by responding to the questions in the “Article Critique Worksheet.” Use complete sentences for questions 2-10. Your response to each question should be three or four sentences long.
Article Critique Worksheet
1. Provide the full reference for the article using APA format. In addition to the reference
note, please provide the link to the article in the GCU library.
2. Describe the health issue that is the focus of the article. Summarize the intervention used
as a health promotion or health behavior change intervention.
3. Identify the methodology used in this study.
4. Assess the organization and focus of the study materials.
5. Evaluate whether the argument presented in the study is understandable and justify your
point of view with supporting evidence. Is the argument or presentation understandable?

6. Identify the audience for the article and discuss whether the author included appropriate
information and language for that audience.
7. Describe the study results and discuss whether the intervention was successful in
promoting behavior change among the individuals of that population.
8. Discuss the applications, recommendations, or implications the author offers based upon
the study results.
9. Discuss whether you believe the article is relevant and useful to public health. Justify
your ideas with supporting evidence.
10. Discuss whether there was information missing from the study. If shortcomings are
identified, include discussion of information that should have been included. Justify your
ideas with supporting evidence.
