Outline
Introduction
Topic: Over the past decades, euthanasia has remained to be a controversial subject that
has been argued in different perspectives. Whilst euthanasia is known to be a way of terminating
life if a person is terminally ill, there are physician who don’t base on the wills and wishes of the
patients. Despite the fact that it is called assisted suicide where a person undergoes mercy killing
processes, euthanasia should be viewed entirely different from suicide. Another main aspect that
one should be aware of is that there is active and passive euthanasia.
Thesis: When it comes to active euthanasia, the patient is normally given lethal dose that
will eventually kill him/her. On the other hand, passive euthanasia is described as withholding or
limiting treatments that are meant to sustain life thus making the person to pass more quickly.
Body Paragraph I
Topic: Technical aspects to be taken into account for this sensitive matter.
Supporting Detail I: One of the ways in which euthanasia can be administered is through
injections. In countries such as Netherlands, doctors use injections to kill patients based on their
wishes or the situations of the illnesses.
Supporting Detail II: As stated earlier, areas such as Oregon uses drugs which have the
ability of ending lives of patients who are terminally ill.
Supporting Detail III: It is good to understand that Oregon is one of the countries that
have legally approved euthanasia or physician assisted suicide.
Body Paragraph II
Topic: Public policies interfering with this physician assisted suicide.
PHYSICIAN ASSISTED SUICIDE
3
Supporting Detail I: There are quite a number of public policy debates and controversies
that delves in the euthanasia topic which has been talked for decades now.
Supporting Detail II: In most cases, many arguments base on the questions of morality
and whether it should be legalized or not. From my point of view, I tend to believe that
physician-assisted suicide is morally ill and thus should not be tolerated.
Supporting Detail III: It goes against God’s will and at times against the will of the
patient.
Body Paragraph III
Topic Sentence: Some research is showing that legalization of euthanasia will pose
threat to the medical industry.
Supporting Detail I: I believe in freedom of expressing will and views, the idea of
euthanasia should not be tolerated in any way whatsoever
Supporting Detail II: We might agree that the terminally ill patients have a right to die in a good
manner, but why don’t we opt for other solutions such as palliative care.
Supporting Detail III: Research also shows that those clinicians and doctors who do such acts are
adversely affected psychologically.
Conclusion
Research should be widely made to come up with formidable solutions in regards to
euthanasia in general. The questions that should be answered here is on the legalization and the
morality of the act. Upon making a comprehensive research I believe that a good solution will be
met where all arguments and parties will be catered for. In my view, I think the arguments
against euthanasia are more than those who support it thereby making me go against physicianassisted suicide.
